Work on my newly rebuilt and refurbished design studio is complete and I’ve moved back in. Finally I have properly insulated walls and enough natural lighting. And a 100 inch home cinema.
Well, so long 2014 – you’ve actually been quite fun! Although the number of anniversaries of events/occasions that I had been around for the original have been quite frightening this year – Ghostbusters is 30! 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall! Back to the Future Part 2 is 25 years old! Suede’s Dog Man Star album and Blur’s Park Life are! Pulp Fiction is 20! The Playstation is 20! Simon Pegg’s and Jessica Hynes’ Spaced is 15! It’s an ever growing list that serves of a reminder of my descent into middle age and beyond. I remember when all these fields were houses (er?), grrr…
It’s a ‘work-in-progress’.
For some reason my pumpkin carving turned out a bit more sinister this year.
Wow, so that was a surprise! There was always a small part of me that secretly hoped we’d get to see a resolution to that cryptic ‘I’ll see you again in 25 years time’ remark from Laura Palmer but I’d long since come to terms that it probably just wishful thinking on my part. It wasn’t too long ago that I was complaining that ‘I’d believe it when it’s actually in my hands’ regarding the rumoured missing footage from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. I was quite content when that finally turned up, but this… this is something else!
The BFI is currently conducting a poll of the greatest science fiction characters of all time. That’s going to be a tricky one. The Doctor? Han Solo? Ellen Ripley? Spock? Judge Dredd? Marvin the Paranoid Android? There’s certainly a lot to choose from. It will be interesting to see the final list and if how many highbrow or obscure choices make it. Regardless of whoever makes the cut I’m sure the result will be divisive.
