The brief: Inspire magazine

The marketing and communications department sent me a brief. Using their existing design for the magazine, and previous issues as a reference, I was to design the summer 2015 issue of Inspire.

The design: Inspire magazine

So far, I’ve enjoyed working on six issues of Inspire magazine. Each one has been different and interesting – with features covering politics, art and science.

I followed the original design guidelines, as instructed in the brief. I found there was some flexibility when it came to the design of the articles and features, though this depended upon how much text I had to work with. Where possible, I liked to use large, strong images to open each new story. I also made use of white space – to keep the layout of each one looking clean and balanced. This ensured that it was easy for the reader to follow the content.

On some of the articles and features, I needed to carry out picture research. I enjoyed the challenge of finding appropriate images for different subjects.
