Updates and the lack thereof

It’s been a while since I updated my ‘blog’. A lot has happened since the last update. I’ve spent the last year dealing with a family loss, the probate process, and everything else associated with that.

I’ve lost interest in the blog side of things, which I hope won’t come as too much of a shock to the 26 people that visit my site (according to Google Analytics). It’s served its purpose – I wanted the extra content when I launched my site. The portfolio side of things is good, and promoting my work has always been the main point of my site.

Over the last two years, I’ve rewritten most of my entries, based on optimising keywords, using shorter sentences, recommended word counts and following other SEO advice; and as a result my writing has suffered. It’s become too constricting and too much of a chore to think of anything relevant to write. I could always write some design-related article, but there’s any number of other ‘design’ blogs out there doing the same thing (and rewriting the same articles over and over again). It’s a crowded marketplace and I’m sick of the rat race.

That said, I’ve got some new ideas on what to do with the blog instead, but I’m waiting to see what changes WordPress 5.0 will bring, and if my custom theme and post-types still work with it. Then I can make a decision about what the next update of my site – what to keep and what to get rid of.
